Uncovering 4 Trends in Library Design

Uncovering 4 Trends in Library Design

Libraries are an essential part of our communities - a place to read a book, a spot to study together, or an area to conduct research!

All walks of life and ages use this space to develop and grow their knowledge. Let’s uncover 4 trends we are beginning or continuing to see in library design.

1) Community Gathering Spaces

Libraries now house a huge variety of materials. Since going digital, libraries have become places where people can hang out, congregate, communicate, and learn new things. It might be a place for students to complete their schoolwork, a place for kids to play, or a location for parents to work while their kids are playing. Public libraries are there to serve any needs the community may have.

Libraries establish social relationships, encourage lifelong learning, and contribute to the general well-being of the communities they serve by embracing their role as community gathering places.

2) Flexibility and Mobile Furniture

Libraries have to be prepared to evolve as the times and requirements do. Therefore, it is crucial to have mobile and adaptable furniture for this purpose. Additionally, libraries often serve multiple purposes, so as needed, they may need to rearrange the furniture to make room for one-on-one quiet study, small-group study, meetings, and large community events.

3) Technology Integration

The digital age is here to stay, and technical development will only accelerate. Libraries are establishing areas specifically for the production of digital media, complete with equipment for 3D printing, audio recording, and video production.

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology are being incorporated into several public libraries' services. For consumers to experience immersive instructional content, virtual tours, or interactive storytelling, they offer VR headsets and AR devices.

4) Biophilic Design

The use of greenery in public library design has grown, from lush green walls to outdoor areas and green roofs. Public libraries are embedding plants throughout their buildings for a variety of reasons, including the fact that they have numerous other advantages over not doing so.

Are you prepared to turn your library into a forward-thinking community hub? Our team is glad to make it happen with you!
